“I’m not, never was, never will be. I belong to the religion of the Church of Chaka Khan, and I practice it every day. I live my religion, I consider it a personal thing. But I’ve taken some courses in Scientology, and they’ve been very, very helpful through life’s ups and downs.”

– Eight time Grammy Award winner and new Broadway star Chaka Khan on Scientology. (The New York Times)

“I guess I’d say that I don’t really like to be classified as having a “religion” because there are too many negative connotations associated with that word. But the principle of my religion or faith would be more accurately described as a learning to love and form relationships in an attempt to resemble Jesus.” Rachel F, junior at UK

” ‘God wants spiritual fruit, not religious nuts!’ That’s probably what sums it up for me, other than the fact that I think religion begins with your own spirituality.” Carrie P, graduate of KTCTS

A rebel against Christianity

They wanted him to go to bible study. He refused.
They took away his PlayStation. He went.
Samuel Johnson , a junior majoring in English at University of Kentucky, recalls the moments his parents forced religion on him.
“I felt like I was in a Christian factory,” he said, “and after living with my parents, I decided to denounce all religions.”
Johnson does not believe in any religion. “Not to sound, narcissistic, but I believe in me.”
He said that religion is something that “seems to be purely a social construction”.
Yet, he knows that there is something “higher in the universe”.
“I have lost relationships because of my viewpoints but “I don’t care,” he said.
“These Christians contradict themselves, if they can’t accept me, right?”
